Institute for the Actualization of Individual Potential

INTERNSHIPS WITH INDIA’S

LEADERS IN INDUSTRY

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Education should open up a student’s mind and create citizens who are sensitive to human dignity across all classes and genres; respect divergent thought processes and eschew bias of any kind.

The philosophy of PAIAP is based on inclusive education .Taking this one step forward, we aim to provide an environment that will present equal opportunities to all young adults who do not function optimally in a traditional academic set up. This will also include individuals who may have special needs.

OUR OBJECTIVE

l At PIAIP, our objective is to provide tools that help students to constantly enquire, explore and discover.

l To find new ways of critical thinking, analyzing and creative conceptualizing.

l To help students free themselves from the traditional way of looking at things and constantly challenge themselves.

l To empower students to simultaneously question the status quo while being at peace with themselves and their environment.

l To provide an atmosphere that encourages the assimilation, dissemination and validation of new ideas.

l To stimulate and satisfy the latent curiosity in every individual.

l To ask questions, expect a free exchange of thoughts and ideas and provide the resources to explore.

l To create a thirst for knowledge and understanding.

l To nurture young minds in an environment that is non-judgmental and unbiased.

l To develop awareness of the responsibility and accountability that goes hand in hand with freedom

OUR METHODOLOGY

l At PIAIP, student learning is competence-based rather than course-work focused. Students move at their own pace demonstrating competencies in areas essential to their chosen fields.

l At PIAIP the students acquire training in a non-sheltered environment, where they work along with the regular employees./ trainees of our partner organizations. The conceptual frame work is based on ‘learning-by-doing” where the interns get hands on training in an area chose either by them or by the organization.

Heart & Minds & Souls

The gala performance on the evening of the 3rd April -MAHABHARATA was the culmination of The Pallavanjali Art For All Festival April 2011 which brought together minds, hearts and souls!

The three day residential festival was the first of it’s kind – where participants from varied backgrounds and abilities converged. This was a platform where everyone got the opportunity to actualize their own individual potential, regardless of their daily profiles. Each was invited  to savor theater, art & craft, mask making, body painting, movement and dancing, percussion & music … even ad film making. During these three days & nights , there were no boundaries or limitations. This unconstructed atmosphere helped their imagination and creativity blossom without inhibitions. They re-interpreted the Mahabharata, re-invented bits of it even- by themselves…the way it was meant to be!

Based on  the interpretations of the participating groups, scenes were put into place – some movement based , some dialogue based , some musical , some purely last minute additions ! The backdrops were painted , the masks finished , the drummers started practicing in earnest and the enthusiasm backstage was palpable .

The grand finale was all that was dreamed of and more! The audience wouldn’t stop applauding the different acts. It was a night to remember!

What was unique was that  that there were no boundaries and no protocol to follow. All participants could experience any art form that they wanted to . They had the freedom to flow from one area of activity to another and try out all creative art before deciding on their ‘ calling’. It was amazing how at the end of the three days, everything effortlessly fell into place.

The script, the direction, the enactment were all willing slaves to the imagination of the participants. This experience taught us all how learning can happen without ‘school’ing! And that was an education in itself!

Dr Ramamoorthy as the director was totally wonderful as he took all participants through self actualization . Amber as the Art/ Painting facilitator was phenomenal as she used the strength of each participant to create unique pieces of art . She just used what was available and created masterpieces ! Sanjay as the drummer was superb ! He effortlessly (seemingly ) was able to draw out the drummer in each of his team members. Venu , the magic musician, was amazing. Dia, with her early morning YOGA and chanting sessions gave the per fect start to each day.

The Pallavanjali staff helped bind all the energies together and participated with gusto.  This event wouldn’t have been possible without them. The stars of the workshop were ofcourse our students who brought the roof down with their laughter, love and talent!

THANK YOU all for making this event rock!  And a big God Bless!!

Pallavanjali in Singapore !!

The students from Pallavanjali’s Career Training Institute for the Actualisation of Individual potential ( PIAIP ) went to Singapore for 10 days for an exchange program with the Tanglin School. They were attached with the Tanglin School’s usual school curriculum during the day and explored Singapore during the evenings

It was a wonderful experience both in terms of Lerning and Exploring. The interns came back richer in many ways .

The most important take home was that our interns surpassed themselves in social skills. We DID expect them to be comfortable and at ease , owing to the non sheltered approach that we have , but we did not expect them to blend in so beautifully in a culturally different country . I think it will be unfair for us to take all the credit, as the Singapore students were so accommodating and welcoming. We realized that we do have something of a novel program in our Internship module as the non sheltered environment trains the students in social skills that are incomparable. It prepares them for the work environment and teaches them to face the world  without any limitations & inhibitions.

This trip has been a life altering exposure for them .They were able to prove to themselves and us , that they are ready for the world ! Their sense of timing, discipline, sense of sheer joy and their willingness to learn all things new surprised us. For some of the students this was the first ever international trip, for some it was the very first time that they were away from their families / home. They learned how to live by themselves, take care of their belongings , travel by public transport and go to a new school and be with unfamiliar peer group as well as face a new schedule everyday. The kind of varied stimuli that they were exposed to has honed them for future life.

To quote some feedback from the parents after we got back

” I can not believe It is my son who has come back . he is so confident . His body language has changed.”

” He is speaking English !! Saying Thank you  at the dinner table – looks all grown up.”

” For the first time he is sharing what he experienced . He is asking questions and is wanting to know about things  ”

” It is surprising how much he can remember and relate to .”

As teachers, our learning was immense as we got a global exposure to how other schools are functioning . It is heartwarming to know that at the end of the day we all are moving towards the same direction . Being with our students for 11 days has changed our perspective for the better . We now know that there are no limitations to what they are capable of

.Please take a look at the pictures for more details.
