The Art as Therapy Camp, 2014

A pure-arts (drawing and painting)  camp for persons from all walks of life – students, care givers and professionals

This camp is open to

 – Artists                                            – psychologists

– therapists                                        (And just about anyone interested in Art)

Schedule

Two Day Camp on 21st & 22nd February, 2014 for professionals

One Day Camp  on 22nd February, 2014 for students & care givers:

On Day-1, the participating professionals will be taken through a workshop demonstrating the healing power of Art (drawing and painting) and the various techniques of using Art as Therapy.

On Day-2, the participating caregivers will learn how to use Art as effective therapy with their wards. The participating children will get an opportunity to explore ‘pure art media’ as an expressive therapy.

The participants of Day 2 will be

  • Children & Adults with varied ability, 
  • Children & Adults from the marginalized community
  • Persons with Mental Health irregularities
  • Regular , neuro-typical persons          

Dates : 21st & 22nd February, 2014 (for professionals)
          : 22nd February, 2014 (for students & care givers)                                

Time   : 9.00 AM to 1.00 PM (followed by lunch)  

Venue:  Pallavanjali , S- Block , Uppal’s South End , Sohna Road , Gurgaon

Brief Profile of the facilitators

Kelvin Ramirez, Ph.D., ATR-BC, LCAT, served as the vice principal of student affairs from 2005 to 2012 in a metropolitan high school in the South Bronx, NY, where he integrated art therapy initiatives in addressing the behavioral, emotional and cognitive concerns of high school students.  He currently serves as an art therapist and guidance counselor. Kelvin is also an adjunct professor at Long Island University C.W. Post, Brookville, NY and The College of New Rochelle, New Rochelle, NY, teaching in both the Art Therapy and Counseling Departments.  Recently, Kelvin completed a doctoral degree program in expressive therapies through Lesley University, Cambridge, MA. He is also a working artist, who has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions.

Edward Caban, Arts Educator/Filmakerstudied film production at the Picker Film Institute, City College of New York.  As the Co-Producer, Chief Cinematographer and Editor on the documentary, “Last Legal Slave In America” Edward’s groundbreaking film aired on the ABC Television Network in 2006. Continuing his education, Edward completed a Graduate Program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City under the tutelage of renowned Commercial and Film Director Bob Giraldi. As the Writer, Director, and Producer, of “Friends and Strangers” Edward was the recipient of the Paula Rhodes Memorial Award for Exceptional Achievement in Film in 2011.  “Friend and Strangers” was nominated for Best Short Film and made its European Premiere at the Film Festival Internazionale di Milano MIFF Awards 2012 in Milan, Italy.  Edward has over 18 years of educational experience and over 20 years of experience in film production.

Alfonso Bui, Director, was born in the Bronx, New York; he began drawing his own cartoons at the age of thirteen, using Macromedia Flash 5. At the age of twenty-one, Bui shot his first educational documentary film “Some Place I Call Home – Racial Tensions in Higher Education” which was screened throughout college campuses in the Northeast. After graduating from Trinity College, Hartford, CT, he completed an internship at Blowback Productions, New York, NY working on the Sundance series “Brick City” and the HBO documentary “Schmatta. He is currently directing the movie – “Art Therapy-The Movie”.

Registration Fees:

For professionals (1 person)                                Rs 4,000 – for 2 days

For a pair of Student+ Caregiver (2 persons)      Rs 3,000   -for 1 day

Fee includes all workshop charges, handouts and all materials, tea and lunch.
